New Undergraduate Opportunity

Apply for the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research

The SPSP Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) was created to provide an intensive summer internship in the methods of social and personality psychology for undergraduates from under-represented ethnic groups. Participating students conduct research and research-related activities full-time for 8 weeks. Learn more and apply.

Patience Can Be Primed

Patience ImageWhether it's making an effort to eat healthier food, or sticking with an exercise program, small actions can become the foundation of a better life in the future. The problem is the payoff for making these sacrifices is usually far enough in the distance that motivation becomes a problem. Recent research has shifted focus from viewing self-control as an innate trait, to considering patience as a state that can be influenced by context, and encouraged through environmental cues.

How Discrimination Shapes the Health of American Racial Ethnic Minorities

Minority Healthcare ImageWhat causes racial and ethnic minority Americans have worse overall health than White Americans?  New research presented at the SPSP Annual Convention shows that discrimination may damage the health of racial and ethnic minorities and contribute to racial and ethnic differences in health in the U.S.

SPSP Small Grant Program

SPSP LogoThe Society for Personality and Social Psychology has officially launched the inaugural edition of the SPSP Small Research Grants program to provide funding for SPSP members who work at institutions that do not provide financial support for research. Learn more about the program and application process.

Member Spotlight: Sally Farley

Sally FarleySally Farley's research generally lies at the intersection between nonverbal communication and relationship science. She is primarily interested in the ways in which nonverbal behaviors (such as vocal cues, laughter, mimicry) function to create and maintain relational bonds, and has recently conducted studies on the situational variability of vocal gaydar accuracy, the interplay between female laughter and male humor on perceptions of mating success, and the nonverbal consequences of social ostracism. Read the SPSP Spotlight on Sally.
